Body Jewelry Sizing Info Curved Barbells, or Bananabells, are a common type of Body Piercing Jewelry, and are most often used in navel piercings, eyebrow piercings, and ear piercings. Our curved barbells are polished to a bright finish, and feature a threaded shaft and two balls that are drilled and treaded inside. The shaft is threaded like a bolt, and screws into the ball. This threading configuration is called Exterior threading, since the threads are on the exterior of the barbell shaft. Curved barbells are measured by gauge, the thickness of the rod used to make the barbell, and length, the distance across the curve between the two balls. Straight Barbells are rapidly becoming one of the most popular styles of body piercing jewelry. All of our Barbells are made from 316L Surgical Steel or Titanium. Our barbell shafts are threaded on the outside. The barbell balls are drilled and threaded on the inside. The shaft is screwed into the ball, allowing for a strong and secure attachment. This is referred to as external threading, since the threads are on the outside of the shaft. Barbells are sized by shaft gauge and shaft length. Barbell gauge refers to the thickness of the shaft. The higher the gauge number, the thinner the shaft. For example, a 14G is thinner than a 12G. The shaft length refers to the distance between the two threaded balls. Longer lengths are used for tongues. A 14G X 1" surgical steel Barbell is most commonly used for the initial tongue piercing. This allows for possible swelling of the tongue. After the body peircing has healed, a 5/8" Barbell is normally used. Colored Titanium Barbells can be used after healing is completed. BodySparkle-Body Jewelry |
