Most Common Body Jewelry Sizes for Piercings

This is a list of the most common body jewelry sizes for different types of piercings. This is based on our over 17 years of experience. Please use this information as a guideline only because one size does not fit all and the size that works for one person, may not work for another.

Belly Button Piercings Curved Barbells, Captive Bead, Circular Barbells, Segment Rings 14 gauge most common. Older piercings may be 16 gauge 3/8 inch (10mm) is most common. 1/4 inch (6mm) or 5/6 inch (8mm) for shallow piercings, 7/16 (11mm), 1/2 (12mm) or 9/16 inch (14mm) for deeper piercings. 5/8 inch (16mm) for very deep piercings.
Conch Piercing Straight Barbells, Captive Bead Rings, Circular Barbells, Segment or Seamless Rings, Spiral Barbells 14g or 12g. 16g and 10 gauge are less common. Hoops that are 1/2 inch (12mm), 9/16 inch (14mm) or 5/8 inch (16mm) are most common depending on width and thickness of outer ear cartilage. Smaller sizes can be used for smaller ears.
Daith Piercing Curved Barbells, Captive Bead, Circular Barbells, Segment or Seamless Rings 18g or 16g 5/16 inch (8mm) is most common. 1/4 inch (6mm) if ear and daith are small, 3/8 inch (10mm) for larger daiths or ears
Nipple Piercings Straight Barbells, Nipple Shields, Captive Bead Rings, Circular Barbells, Segment Rings, Spiral Barbells 14 gauge most common. 12 gauge for larger nipples. 16 gauge and 10 gauge are less common. 5/8 inch (16mm)long barbells or hoop sizes are most common, but size needed depends on size of nipple. Barbells that are 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch (3mm) longer than nipple size may be best for comfort and piercing health.
Nose Piercing Nose Bones, Nose Screws, Nose Studs or Hoops 16g is most common and gauge piercers usually use. Many people use 20 gauge or 22 gauge jewelry to shrink the piercing. Post length for nose bones, screws and studs is usually 1/4 inch (6mm) long. Some people may need longer or shorter posts. Hoop size needed depends on thickness of the nose and the placement of the piercing (how high it is). 5/16 inch (8mm) will fit most people but many people use 1/4 inch (6mm) and some need 3/8 inch (10mm) for higher nose piercings.
Rook Piercings Curved Barbells, Captive Bead, Circular Barbells, Segment or Seamless Rings 18g or 16g 5/16 inch (8mm) is most common. 1/4 inch (6mm) if ear and daith are small, 3/8 inch (10mm) for larger rooks or ears
Snug Piercing Curved Barbell. Small Captive Bead Rings, Circular Barbells, Segment or Seamless Rings can be used if ear shape permits. 16g is most common but 18 gauge is sometimes used. 14 gauge is less common. Short curved barbells, usually 5/16 inch (8mm). 3/8 inch (10mm) for larger ears and 1/4 inch (6mm) for smaller ears. Same sizes for hoops.
